Figure Out Why It’s Jammed

If your safe is jammed, you need to figure out the cause. What could it be? Take a look…

  1. ) The batteries are dead.

This is probably the easiest possible issue to deal with. It’s a quick fix as long as you know that this is the problem and know how to change the batteries. Go with brand name batteries because they are more likely to last longer than batteries that are not brand name.

  2. ) The safe is in lockout mode.

Maybe you forgot your combination code and entered one that was not accurate multiple times. Suddenly, you are locked out of your safe. This happens. If it happened to you, or if someone attempted to break in to your safe by guessing the wrong code, then don’t panic. You might just have to wait a few moments before trying again. This depends on the safe you have.

  3. ) The bolt work has become jammed.

Do you think you could be experiencing a jam with the bolt work? Do you hear the motor running while you are attempting to open up the safe, but the door is not moving? If so, it might be an issue with the bolt work. Try tapping hard on the door of the safe or even kick it gently. But don’t touch the keypad, because you don’t want to damage it. You have to be cautious and gentle, as this could help release pressure, but if you hit the safe too hard, obviously you risk damage. This step should be done with caution.

  4. ) The wiring needs to be fixed.

To check this one, you will have to remove the safe’s keypad. It is understandable that this is a step many won’t want to try on their own, in which case you should call a locksmith. The next step is to inspect the wires. Do they appear to be tangled? What about loose? You might need to remove the wires and the batteries and reconnect them.

There are numerous things that could cause a safe to be jammed. These are just some of them. Some things are going to be easy to resolve as a do it yourself project. For example, you might just have a dead battery. But for other things, you might want to consider calling in a lock and security expert who has worked with safes many times before. Go with someone licensed and insured to be safe. After all, they are going to be handling your property.
